Lisa Drake
Play Therapist
Hi, I’m Lisa!
I am a Certified Play Therapist on the Play Therapy UK (PTUK) Register of Play and Creative Arts Therapists.
From the moment I began studying for my undergraduate degree until I qualified as a play therapist my goal has been to help children, and their families, overcome the challenges life has thrown at them.
My Story
I genuinely love my profession and I am very passionate about the therapeutic work I do. I have over 20 years’ experience working with children and families in various multi-agency roles and it is always a privilege to witness the positive changes that occur for the children and families I support. Prior to completing my therapeutic training, I worked as an Assistant Psychologist in Scotland, followed by six years living in the Northern Territory of Australia working for the Department of Children and Families delivering statutory Child Protection Services.
I am available via online consultations to provide psychoeducation and support to parents and carers on a variety of issues affecting children and young people, such as anxiety, depression, anger, lack of confidence, low self-esteem and peer relationship difficulties.
I can also provide advice in relation to child development, attachment difficulties, parenting styles, managing challenging behaviour and understanding disorders such as Autism Spectrum Disorder (ASD) and Attention Deficit Hyperactivity Disorder (ADHD).
Therapeutic approach
My approach to supporting parents and carers is person-centred, which means I am genuine and I will listen and hear what you are saying with compassion, empathy and acceptance. Supporting the adults in a child’s life is crucial to the therapeutic process. Working together as a team around the child helps to achieve the best outcomes, not just for the child and their family, but also for the school community where social, emotional and behavioural difficulties are causing issues in the learning environment.
