Sharna Brest
Consultant
I am a practicing Educational and clinical Psychologist currently in my 16th year of qualification, practice, consulting and registration with the Health Professions Council of South Africa (HPCSA). I have had the opportunity to gain my experience by being exposed to a number of different communities, schools, families and individuals who have presented with a variety of needs and areas of desired further growth and support. This has allowed me to develop my skills and focus on my areas of deep interest and competence as a practitioner in the field of psychology.
My Story
As a practicing Educational Psychologist in Botswana, Johannesburg South Africa, Antwerp Belgium, and now embarking on my journey as a consultant at Connect Psychology Dubai, I had and continue to have the opportunity to delve into and experience a multitude of areas and needs within the specific communities I am exposed to.
I had the fortunate opportunity to assist and support individuals as well as families in all areas such as parental guidance. Working within a multi-disciplinary team within the private and government schools. Facilitating and supporting the multi-cultural communities, as well as within the expatriate community. Involvement in supporting and identifying the needs of children requiring remedial assistance as well as academic support for various scholastic, emotional and social difficulties. I have had the opportunity to assist students with study techniques, personalised to individual learning style, as well as study skills, motivation, structure and organisation. Within addressing study techniques I worked through self-management skills (i.e. anger management) and Stress management skills. Psychotherapy and play therapy, for children and adolescents, as well as parent guidance and support, family dynamics and communication techniques, and individual therapy to parents regarding specific challenges within the household, work and child related difficulties.
During my years in private practice I have become proficient and passionate about;
-
Psycho-educational assessments,
-
Concession/accommodation assessments
-
School readiness assessments
